Bay City Times article: "Madonna mum on Bay City's key offer – Maybe she's just not that into us?""Bay City Mayor Charles M. Brunner says he's not sure what he'll do. But this much is known: Madonna is going to be in Michigan on Aug. 2. …" I received an email yesterday from a pastor. [Thank you, Pastor, for caring and taking a stand in your area). He wrote the following: "Dear Bill Johnson, Thank you for speaking out in your [apparent] interview with the Bay City Times. This morning I read the following news piece: Madonna mum on Bay City's key offer – Maybe she's just not that into us? http://blog.mlive.com/bctimes/2008/05/madonna_mum_on_mayors_key_offe.html It is nice to know that there are others such as yourself speaking out. I have offered my comments before on this Madonna Bay City issue and I did it again, this morning, following the [aforementioned] news piece: I wish the Mayor of Bay City would get the message — the message of silence from Madonna. I don't think Madonna is interested in Bay City using her (and her body) to help Bay City climb out of its economic doldrums. I have to thoroughly disagree with the Mayor when he states that Madonna has "come full circle." [My note: The mayor talked positively about her now being a caring parent and therefore apparently beyond the earlier stages of life marked by degradation.] How does he know? Has he seen the photo cover of Madonna's "Hard Candy" album? Has he seen the video and listened to the lyrics? She is still presenting herself as a bad girl type — and hence, a bad role model for our youth. And, the Mayor wants to promote a bad role model? I say shame on the mayor! I see duplicitous, inconsistent (and even hypocritical) behavior on the mayor’s part – especially when he is on a tear to promote Madonna and then he presents recognition awards at Commission meetings, to our city’s youth, for their true and genuine exemplary behaviors. And, the Mayor is being presumptuous in saying that he 'represents the majority of folks in Bay City.' The mayor simply has his head in the sand on this whole Madonna thing. Bill Johnson from the American Decency Association as mentioned by the Bay City Times news article, states the obvious. Why can't our Mayor know when to leave well enough alone? If the mayor is a private fan of Madonna – that is his privilege. But he doesn’t have to drag all of Bay City with him!
