Let’s get back to engaging our local churches

By: Steve Huston

***A few items worth lifting up to our brothers and sisters in Christ as we go to our local churches this weekend. [See below]

But first this:

On Wednesday evening at my local church’s weekly Bible study, we were discussing blessings and cursings – that God desires our obedience and He blesses it. Also, how He detests our disobedience and does not bless it.

As the discussion unfolded, someone brought up concerns regarding McDonalds and AFA’s boycott of McDonalds (which we support with them as you would know).

One said “Ever since I heard about McDonald’s endorsement of homosexuality I haven’t gone there once and have no intention to.”

Another said, “I admit I did have a sausage/egg biscuit. I slipped up. I’m sorry.”

How refreshing to hear the group of 11 discussing this concern and showing convictions.

We also have a spiritual leader who brings up such concerns and is supportive. He thanked me when I provided the most recent update from AFA. (See below)

Here are two of such items. See also a boycott petition available online from AFA. Now would be a great time to print it off and have it available in your Sunday School and brought up as an action item before the congregation. Let’s remind our local church to pray and engage.

McDonald’s update and petition:

A document shows McDonald’s requested a 10% “group discount” to a recent pro-homosexual training seminar. Eligibility to receive the discount required “groups of 15 or more registrants for the full price 3-day (Out & Equal 2008 Workplace) Summit.”

McDonald’s applied for the special “discount code” off the regular registration price of $775 per person. The registration price did not include the employee’s air travel, hotel and meal expenses.

The conference, held in Austin, TX, was designed to train employees how to effectively advance homosexuality in the workplace and to persuade top corporate officials to embrace the lifestyle by offering special recognition and benefits to gay employees.

For example, McDonald’s health benefits package includes full coverage for sex-change procedures, post-operative recovery, and mental health counseling throughout the process.

*** September 21 “Stand for Marriage Sunday”
A reminder from Family Research Council

September 21 has been designated by a coalition of pro-family groups as “Stand for Marriage Sunday” across America. The goal is to ask congregations to stand in solidarity with the efforts in Arizona, Florida, and California to pass amendments to their respective state constitutions that will protect marriage between one man and one woman. The need is great. Polling numbers are slipping in Florida, which needs a 60% vote for passage. While California polls are conflicting, there is no question that it is close. A similar amendment failed in Arizona back in 2006, so there is no guarantee it will pass this year. The bottom line is that we need to pray for and support the efforts in all three states.
