Flint Police Crack down on saggy pants and update on “Swingtown”

A brief personal word.

In our newsletters of earlier years, I have referred to Flint, Michigan as the porn capitol of Michigan. I have met with their present prosecutor and former Genesee County Sheriff Joe Wilson. I have rightly had grave concerns about the integrity of law enforcement in that region of the state.

Then I saw this news report coming out of Flint on Wednesday.
“Flint Police crack down on saggy pants”

Police Chief David Dicks has announced that his officers would start arresting people wearing saggy pants that expose skivvies, boxer shorts or bare bottoms.

Comments from others both pro and con —

I read some of the comments from readers of the article lambasting the interim Chief of Police. Comments like:

“I am laughing at this. Flint has more to worry about than what a person wears. The few police that are left will have more to worry about than someones crack.”

“… Give me a flippin’ break! Well I guess as long as the city has an over-abundance of police officers who have nothing to do other than look for saggy a$$ pants wearing people, why not? This has to be the most idiotic, stupid, assinine, big effin’ waste of time thing the city police could do. I will continue to swear about this one all afternoon – especially when I can look out my office window at ANY time of the day and watch the crack dealers (who do not wear baggy saggy pants – you can’t run in those things!) walk up and down the alley looking for someone to pedal their crap to. Day in and day out. …”

Those speaking for the chief’s actions:

“Should this be a first thing Flint PD look for? No, the area has bigger issues, however as someone who drivers to Flint on a monthly or every other month basis, it is something that gives the area a less than stellar reputation from people outside the city.

Another wrote:
“Why should it be okay to walk around with your butt hangin out for all to see? What happen to respect? Why do I have to see their underwear over and over? I am tryin to teach my kids to have respect for themselves which is not letting them going around with their drawers showing. …”

And yet another:
“… You folks (referencing the many who spoke negatively) have slid down the slippery slope (or bare backside) for so long that your communities have deteriorated into a subculture of thuggery and profanity. You blame the police while giving the “fad” a pass. Exposing your crack can be as bad in the long run as smoking it. ..”

My comments in closing:
I agree with the writer who said “”Should this be a first thing Flint PD look for? No, the area has bigger issues, however …”

I don’t know enough about the ins and outs behind what transpired to stir the newly named interim police chief. In addition, I don’t know the man, but I do applaud his bold action to set a tone for the good.

Many of us have expressed concern regarding scantily clad women.

A pastor from earlier years (Richard Baxter) wrote the following words in this regard to ladies “.. You must not lay a stumbling-block in their way, nor blow up the fire of their lust … You must walk among sinful persons, as you would do with a candle among straw or gunpowder; or else you may see the flame which you did not foresee, when it is too late to quench it.”

It seems like we give men a free pass in regard to their dress. Yet, there are those who are vulgar and profane in the manner in which they exhibit themselves.

If you feel inclined to encourage the Flint Chief of Police, I urge you to do so. I will be.

An update on “Swingtown”. First this comment from PTC and a quote from Advertising Age:

According to a July 7th article from AdAge.com, several commercials that CBS is running during Swingtown were not purchased by advertisers. Dannon yogurt says that it bought ad time on CBS generally, but that it was the network that chose to run their commercials during Swingtown. Other major sponsors want nothing to do with the show. After running commercials on one early episode, Philips North America, makers of Norelco razors, pulled their ads after customers wrote to the company and complained. Procter & Gamble — CBS’s largest advertiser in 2007 — has stated, “We are not advertising on this show.” CBS has been reduced to running ads for a 1960s “Flower Power” song collection from Time Life Music during the show — the kind of ad that typically runs on low-budget cable networks at 3 a.m. This is a sure sign that the network can’t attract advertisers — who don’t want their products associated with Swingtown’s sleaze.

*** After watching just a slice of last night’s “Swingtown”, I have to add this final word —

Here is a kissing scene between a teenager and a teacher.

Then another graphic scene of group sex between a husband and wife and a third man.

It is so disheartening and angering and I weep as I see it for even a momemt as the clip was pointed out to me.

CBS is perverted.
