“… There are hard days ahead of us – for ourselves and for our spiritual and physical children. And without a strong view of Scripture as a foundation, we will not be ready for the hard days to come. …”
Listening and watching Joe Gibbs this morning speaking at the Value Voters Summit in Washington DC (furnished by streaming via afa.net), Joe Gibbs wrapped up his message with a few urgencies and reminders.
One of them was this: To get in the Bible and stay in the Word. “If we study that Book, it’s the game plan of life.”
Here’s how the late Francis Schaeffer stated it in the last book he wrote in 1984:
” … There are two reasons in our day for holding to a strong uncompromising view of Scripture.
First and foremost, this is the only way to be faithful to what the Bible teaches about itself, to what Christ teaches about Scripture, and to what the church has consistently held through the ages. This should be reason enough in itself.
But today there is a second reason why we should hold to a strong, uncompromising view of Scripture. There are hard days ahead of us – for ourselves and for our spiritual and physical children. And without a strong view of Scripture as a foundation, we will not be ready for the hard days to come. Unless the Bible is without error, not only when it speaks of salvation matters, but also when it speaks of history and the cosmos, we have no foundation for answering questions concerning the existence of the universe and its form and the uniqueness of man. Nor do we have any moral absolutes, or certainty of salvation, and the next generation of Christians will have nothing on which to stand. Our spiritual and physical children will be left with the ground cut from under them, with no foundation upon which to build their faith or their lives. …”

In closing —
I know of numbers of people who are in and out of church and can’t settle on a church. This is a dangerous position to be in. If you are reading this and this matches you, I urge you to truly take time praying about this. Resolve to get into a Bible preaching church that is true to the Word of God and stay at it and in it. It isn’t always just about them. Often it’s about us.
I agree with Joe Gibbs and the late Francis Schaeffer. We need to be under the preaching of God’s Holy Word.
With Sunday just around the corner, this would be a good time to fight the fight of faith – “Don’t forsake the gathering of the saints.”
