Am I a soldier of the cross?

By: Chris Johnson

It appears that the Democrats are getting closer to that number of 60 they are hoping for in the U.S. Senate. If that is the case, this is what may be before us.

” … Should [Sen.]Reid control 60 votes next year, no issue that the Left wants, no matter how radical the demand, would be off the table. Issues like the Freedom of Choice Act, which would mandate taxpayer funding of abortions and repeal all state and federal restrictions on abortions; massive tax hikes on small businesses (see below); repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act, allowing for the judicial imposition of same-sex “marriage” on all fifty states; socialized health care; gutting the budget for national defense; a massive amnesty for illegal aliens; reinstating and even expanding the ban on domestic oil exploration; or confirming the most radical leftwing judges to our courts. On any one or all of these issues, Republicans would be powerless to stop them. …”

Personal note:

Our God is sovereign. His will is marching forth and we are His workmanship. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

Reading through the book of Acts in the mornings – it is encouraging and mentoring to see the zeal and boldness of the apostles.

There’s Paul preaching the Gospel with power, vigor and incredible boldness.

There’s Peter “feeding the sheep” as Christ directed Him to do after Peter had betrayed Him three times at the time of the crucifixion.

Now here we are. Here I am at such a time as this. We have lost our Christian consensus in this country really quite a long time ago but now it is even more apparent with each passing year.

Yet, there stands Christ saying “Come follow me.” Mark 8:34

“Feed my sheep.” John 21:17

“Continue in the things which thou hast learned and been assured of.”
II Timothy 3:14

“Preach the Word. Be instant in season out of season. Reprove. Rebuke. Exhort. With all long suffering and doctrine.” II Timothy 4:2

“Test all things. Hold fast what is good. Abstain from all forms of wickedness.” I Thesssalonians 5:21-22

“Endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this world that he may please Him who has chosen him to be a soldier.” II Timothy 2:3-4

One of the special things about being a Christian is that you don’t have to be a big shot – a big name. In fact, He uses the lowly, the weak, the humble that He would confound the world.

You don’t have to sit around and wait for someone else to live for Him. If you are a Christian, He has given you the Holy Spirit to guide, instruct, encourage, strengthen, to comfort. God desires to use us right where we are.

For example in Acts 17, persecution took place of Jason. Quoting:
“… they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, ‘These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.'”

This song has met a lot to me.

Am I a soldier of the cross,
A follower of the Lamb,
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His Name?

Must I be carried to the skies
On flowery beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
And sailed through bloody seas?

Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?

Sure I must fight if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord.
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.

Thy saints in all this glorious war
Shall conquer, though they die;
They see the triumph from afar,
By faith’s discerning eye.

When that illustrious day shall rise,
And all Thy armies shine
In robes of victory through the skies,
The glory shall be Thine.

Is ADA a losing proposition? Perhaps to some if not many. But what about in the eyes of Christ?

I believe He sees us as “more than conquerors through Him who loves us.”

I remind you of a small year end match challenge that was extended by a friend of this ministry. It seems we are having a rather rough time meeting it. If only a 100 of you or so who look to this email regularly would get behind our efforts with a sacrifice of $25 or $50 or $100, we could yet make this match challenge.

It’s an extension of a match challenge that we were not able to meet earlier in the year.

Quoting: “I will match all new (from anyone who has not given to ADA in 2007 or 2008) gifts received from June 1- August 31 up to a total of $15,000. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for all you do to uphold purity and holiness.”

This match challenge had already run for three months. Here are the results through that time frame. There were 88 gifts totaling $5,911.00.

So our anonymous donor graciously sent us a check for $6,000 and proceeded to yet challenge us again. Stating: “We will give you $6,000 now and we would like to extend the offer for an additional $10,000 for new money collected by 12/31/08. Keep up the fight…”

Those of you that follow closely know that these year end match challenges – as they are met – have been used significantly to strengthen us to start the new year on solid financial ground!!

If you benefit from our email alerts, I encourage you to show your tangible support. Your gift of any amount will be doubled. We will continue by the grace of God and the help of His people.
