Pornography Awareness Week

By: American Decency Staff

Some of you reading this recall the day when ministries across the country held the last week of October and first few days of November as Pornography Awareness Week. There are a few that still do including ADA. This special week is also known as White Ribbons Against Pornography. See Morality in Media's webpage. http://moralityinmedia.org/wrap.htm There were efforts by individuals and ministries to urge their pastors to preach a sermon encouraging congregations to guard their hearts, minds and souls against viewing things that were displeasing to God. The need is great. This important emphasis needs to continue! It is, however, the rare pastor who will speak about this serious matter where Satan is doing so much damage in the hearts of people – young and old. A couple of years ago I attended the best conference that I have ever attended in regard to this great battle for personal purity. It was entitled "Sex and the Supremacy of Christ." There were twelve powerful messages at this conference. Here is an excerpt from the first of these messages by Dr. John Piper. He stated in his introductory words: QUOTING: There is a connection between the beheadings of Jack Hensley and Eugene Armstrong and Nick Berg and Paul Johnson and perhaps Kenneth Bigley, and this conference on Sex and the Supremacy of Christ. I look at them and I see their hands and their eyes. And I think of my hands and my eyes and my death and my faith. And then I hear the words of Jesus put it all in perspective, and in relation to sex. "You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.â€Â (Matthew 5:27-30) In other words, there is something far more important than to keep your eye or your hand—or your head—namely, to receive eternal life and not to perish in hell. And Jesus links it with the war that we are waging not in Iraq but in our hearts. And the issue is sexual desire and what we do with it. Everywhere you look in the world, it seems, there are reminders that life is war. We are not playing games this weekend. Heaven and hell, Jesus says, are in the balance. …" We will make each of these messages available to you free of charge if you will just email me with the following words in the subject line: Supremacy of Christ Contact me at: bjohnson@americandecency.org ========== ADA "Pornography Awareness" Event scheduled for this Saturday, November 3 between 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM at ADA headquarters 203 E. Main Street Fremont, MI Lastly, Match Grant. We received this gracious offer from an anonymous donor. "… I would like to again offer a $15,000 matching grant to anyone who hasn't given since 12/31/05 or to anyone who gives more than what they gave in 2006 (e.g. if they gave $1,000 in '06 and gave $1500 in '07, we will match the $500 increase as long as it was given between 9/10/07-12/31/07). We will match these gifts received from 9/10/07 through 12/31/07." Help us meet this challenge.
