The last couple of days I have been expressing concern about pornography in the military. Hear the voices of others: See links below: But first these several email clips from around the country: “… I understand that pornography IS a serious sin and problem ALL THROUGHOUT society, but each man stands as an INDIVIDUAL before Jesus at the end of his life, responsible for his own actions and thoughts. It is the same in society, large groups are all made up of individuals, some seeking God’s will for their lives, some not, God will separate the wheat from the chaff himself. Who are we to classify the entire military in one broad stroke as ‘Monsters’ intent on all ‘kinds of Atrocities’. Guard the tongue, when all has been said and done, it will have slain far more than the sword. …” J.F. “… I feel as if I need to reply to this. I am former Navy. I served Active duty from 1986 – 1991. And then 2 years Reserve after 9/11. I was a new Christian when I joined the Navy ( the first time )…. Now, I am very pro military. But against their policies on porn. So when I approach a Christian guy/girl who is considering joining the military, I encourage them to seek out good Christian fellowship, on base, ship, AND overseas. Especially in ports where prostitution is legal, like Thailand, and The Philippines. The Christian missionaries who run these Servicemen’s centers should be prayed for in their efforts in reaching out to these service men and women. Christians and non-Christians alike. Also, they need to be promoted. As in the word needs to get out to more military Christians that there IS a way of escape. Read 1 Cor 10:13. These centers are a refuge. A shelter from the temptations that are literally right down the street from them. I would encourage you to get more information on these centers and their locations. They sure helped me. Thank you, E.D. — Your tirade against the army is totally unwarranted and despicable. You have jumped in to generalize from a specific incident or location to paint the whole army as depraved. There are thousands of Christian officers and leaders in our Armed Forces who will not and do not tolerate open pornography. I served as an infantry unit commander for thirty years at levels up to and including a mechanized brigade and a US Army Training Center. I came down hard on porn and know other fine Christian commanders who did likewise. Shame on you for disregarding completely the many Christian leaders who uphold high moral values in themselves, their subordinate leaders and their men. You owe them an apology. Colonel, US Army, Retired —- “I’ve been in and certainly seen units that were like that. However, at the last three installations I served at (Germany, Ft. Hood, Ft. Bliss) the pictures on the walls and lockers were banned. We routinely inspected barracks rooms and this was forbidden. No question there are undisciplined units in the Army. Also no question that we have a confluence of the largest professional gathering of 18-25 year olds of any organization in the nation and we have very hormonally charged and values challenged young men and women. But in my counseling outside the Army, as evidenced by Christian men’s group confessions, and the biblical stories of men like Judah and David, this is neither a new nor an Army problem. This past week a major wire service story came across about the exposure of high school-aged students to pornography. It is rampant and we currently lack the tools or the will to deal nationally with the problem. If there is a problem or value challenge among the youth in our culture, it will be prevalent in microcosm of our society that is our military services. We are not the breeding ground of cultural upheaval, we are a reflection of it.” Military —— “… Yet sexually explicit publications in our exchanges do promote immorality in the military. By providing this material, consider what you are doing to our military and military families. …” Military — 9.14.07 Army and Air Force Exchange Service selling p**n https://americandecency.org/main.php?f=updates_new/2007/September/9.14.07 9.26.07 Army and Air Force Exchange Service selling porn – (continued) https://americandecency.org/main.php?f=updates_new/2007/September/9.26.07 9.27.07 … when porn is allowed/endorsed in our military https://americandecency.org/main.php?f=updates_new/2007/September/9.27.07 Contacts: If within the military http://odin.aafes.com/feedback/default.asp If outside the military email: Commander@aafes.com ========= American Decency Association Bill Johnson, President P.O.
