Personal note: Most of us are familiar with the much quoted verse: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” [I Cor. 15:58] Note that this verse is verse 58 – the very last verse of this lengthy chapter. It sums up a powerful section of scripture that gives reason why it is that we should be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. Many of us here in the Midwest and in other locations are experiencing bitter cold. The other evening while returning from Pennsylvania in the late evening the temperature was -23 degrees near my home in Fremont, MI. [Check out www.americandecency.org to see what it looks like – the cold, frigid look.] Waking up and going to work with below zero temps is disheartening. This kind of weather does discourage, but there are much more troubling, hurtful things assaulting our hearts and lives: the report of a three year old boy with brain cancer – it seems untreatable; a fifth military helicopter (since the beginning of the year) shot down; the relentless assault of pornography, obscenity and indecency upon our senses; family members whose hearts are hardened to the things of God and the list goes on and on. But thanks be unto God for His mighty power to save and renew our hearts day by day. To live in victory – “O grave where is thy sting” as Paul writes in I Cor. 15. “This corruptible will one day put on incorruptible!” It is in this relationship with Christ that God calls us to live in. This relationship is available for each of us – by faith. Faith, indeed, is the victory that overcomes the world. “…forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” We are called to fight the fight of faith! Fight on! Fuel your faith by praying for greater faith. Getting into His Word and staying in it day by day by day! Memorizing Scripture IS a great strengthener of faith and of our labor in Christ. This email though not having any so-called action steps is a reminder of the high importance of our spiritual heart condition. We need our hearts to be clean and wholesome and vibrant – for Him. ========================================== Let’s encourage one another and strengthen one another to be more like our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
