August 01, 2007 – myspace.com and the Christian

By: American Decency Staff

A question from someone who follows our daily emails — “Visit www.myspace.com/onestarstory a christian band I interviewed and question why they allow porno people on their website. Their answer was that they let everyone one and maybe these people would have the chance to hear the word (they then public articles saying they have thousands of “my friends”). Your thoughts?” Our answer: We see sites like this as trying to be relevant by being like the culture. If their “sound” doesn’t entertain, their message has no impact. To me this smacks of doing it man’s way instead of God’s way. Yes we are in the world, but we are not to be of the world or like the world. I have heard these arguments so many times, “well Jesus went out into the world of sinners”. Yes He did, but He also did not invite 34,474 of His friends to join him there and He did not leave sinners there, He drew them out. If we have to have music that sounds like the rest of the world to attract people, how do we draw them out of lifestyles that destroy. If a group like this wants to entertain, that is ok, but calling it ministry seems like a way to justify a style. We’re not questioning motives, but we sure are questioning method!
