A look at ABC’s programming

This is why we will continue to boycott Disney, a corporation that is not just ambivalent toward morality and decency, but is actively and purposefully attacking it.ABC/Disney kicked off its fall season in recent weeks adding a number of new shows to its lineup. Disney encourages families to “experience the magic of Disneyâ€Â at its theme parks, promising: “There's something here to ignite the imagination and warm the spirit of everyone in your family …â€Â That same company gives children and families a far different experience through the explicit shows airing on ABC/Disney. Sadly, what passes for entertainment on ABC will certainly “ignite the imaginationâ€Â of the viewer – fueling the darkening of the heart, kindling the acceptance of immorality as the norm, and leaving a trail of destruction in its path. Take a look at ABC’s programming. You’d have to be blind, deaf, and dumb not to see their agenda – and it certainly isn’t an agenda that demonstrates caring for families or children. These Hollywood elites seem to be on a mission to undermine and erode any vestige of morality and faith from your family and our culture. Below is a synopsis of what one would be exposed to on a weekly basis from ABC. SUNDAY: Desperate Housewives – Starting the week on Sunday night ABC brings back the once pacesetter of trash, “Desperate Housewivesâ€Â. When “Desperate Housewivesâ€Â premiered several years ago, it crossed the proverbial line with explicit sexual scenes, including that between adults and underage teens, bondage scenes, homosexual sex, and the legitimization of pornography use. As the show broke ground and has now taken root in our culture, the need to titillate to gain an audience is not as necessary for a now established show, but “Desperate Housewivesâ€Â is still far from tame. Crude, sexual dialogue is still rife in the show, as are sexual imagery and themes. For example, in the first show of the season one sympathetically portrayed ‘housewife’ begins an affair with her ex-husband on the day of her wedding to someone else. Another shows a mother crashing a teen’s wild party to bring her daughter home – dressed in revealing lingerie. (The teenage boys think she is a stripper.) Brothers and Sisters – Another ABC show also on Sunday evenings is “Brothers and Sistersâ€Â. Sounds innocent enough, right? Hardly. The show features the affairs of a supposedly “normalâ€Â family of adult siblings. This family includes an illegitimate daughter from the father’s long-time lover, a homosexual son, and other assorted forms of immorality. The first episode of this season focuses on the homosexual son involved in a sexual relationship with a gay minister – referred to as “The Reverend Boyfriendâ€Â. The minister jumps the gay son and the two men are shown kissing passionately. Several other sexual scenes are shown of the two men – kissing, a bathroom/shower scene, sexual dialogue, a reference to porn use. And, showing ABC’s penchant for mocking Christianity, the gay minister is shown preaching in church with a banner behind him stating “He is Risenâ€Â while his gay lover is in the congregation. MONDAY: Samantha Who? – Monday night ABC will be bringing a new sitcom entitled “Samantha Who?â€Â While this show hasn’t premiered yet, based on reports and previews it will be another attack on decency. In a TV Guide interview, the actress playing the main character states about the role, “I never got to play a b—h before! She says whatever she wants without consequence. She just doesn’t care. There’s a freedom to that …â€Â And “ … Sam was a cheater … she had a boyfriend and was cheating on him …â€Â TUESDAY: Cavemen and Carpoolers – Tuesday night ABC advertises it’s lineup of shows as a “man-dateâ€Â – supposedly appealing to ‘humor’ men will appreciate. Their new sitcoms “Cavemenâ€Â and “Carpoolersâ€Â are rampant with in-the-gutter humor and explicit sexual scenes at the 8:00 hour. “Cavemenâ€Â is especially vulgar. I’ll spare you the specific dialogue, but believe me when I say the show is replete with references to crude sex acts, female and male body parts, and the depiction of sex acts taking place in public places. So as ABC encourages men to tune in for a “man-dateâ€Â the young men who seem to be their target audience have a weekly example validating the disgusting, so-called locker room humor, dialogue, and behaviors portrayed on shows like “Cavemenâ€Â. WEDNESDAY: Private Practice – Wednesday night brings the new ABC show “Private Practiceâ€Â, a spin-off of the also-troubling “Grey’s Anatomyâ€Â. The second episode opens with the lead character dancing around naked and her neighbor – also a co-worker – watching her. The show gives every indication of another medical show where the doctors are more obsessed with sex than medicine. Dirty, Sexy, Money – Also on Wednesday, ABC premiered the new show “Dirty, Sexy, Moneyâ€Â. ABC proudly and arrogantly advertises the show as ‘living up to its name’. And sadly, it does. The show features an extremely wealthy family consisting of older parents and their adult children. The creator of the show is quoted describing the show: “We have lots of pretty girls and handsome men and we see them in various states of undress as often as we can.â€Â The married mother of the clan has had a 40- year affair with the family attorney, one daughter is on her fourth husband, the youngest son is shown in an explicit sex scene with a passing acquaintance, and on and on. The oldest son, who is running for the office of senator, is also cheating on his wife – but to push the moral envelope even further – the sexual affair is with a transvestite. It’s revealed that the son has had numerous liaisons with transvestites and he and the transvestite are shown kissing and in bed together after a sexual encounter. Another son is actually a minister, always shown in a ministerial collar. ABC of course can’t allow a positive portrayal of Christianity to be shown and he, the minister, is depicted as the most vile and contemptuous of them all. The minister uses profanity, threatens people, is hateful and cruel. Oh, and this married minister and father of two daughters, also has an illegitimate son. When his mistress drops off the young boy to his father, the minister is incredibly cruel to his son. He makes it clear to the little boy that he wants nothing to do to him and angrily tells the boy that his mother will have to take him back if “I have to shoot you at her with a canon.â€Â THURSDAY: Grey’s Anatomy -Thursday night ABC brings back the soap opera-ish “Grey’s Anatomyâ€Â. This show’s premiere episode a few years ago opened with a young female intern picking up a complete stranger in a bar, taking him home for sex without even knowing his name, and finding out later he was her boss at the hospital. The affair continued and the show is known for explicit sexual scenes and notoriously amoral behavior. Examples include pornographic scenes of a man and two women in a shower, a scene of one woman and two men in bed together, sex in a car, in the hospital, etc. Each week ABC teaches that sex is meaningless as exemplified in this conversation from the second episode of this season’s “Grey’s Anatomyâ€Â (10/4/07). The main character, Meredith, is in bed with her supervising doctor with whom she has had an on-going affair. They’ve broken off their relationship, but they still have casual sex. After sex she tells him he has to go home, saying: “No sleepovers … Broken up people don’t sleepover. Sex only. It’s the only part of the relationship that works.â€Â And he states, “Why screw it up with everything else – dinner, conversations.â€Â In a nutshell, this typifies the destructive message of much that airs on ABC. How disturbing to think of the emotional, physical and spiritual damage done to countless individuals and families as this theme of sex with anyone at anytime permeates the thinking of millions. Big Shots – Also airing on ABC on Thursday evenings is the new show “Big Shotsâ€Â. Sort of a “Desperate Housewivesâ€Â, only featuring men. However, this show – incredibly – is even more crass and sex-laced. Which is how it goes. Themes that once seemed taboo become commonplace and so the crudity escalates and escalates. The content becomes more shocking until that, too, is accepted and a new low is then reached. Sex outside of marriage? Now common on TV. So now we have sex with minors, sex with transsexuals, bondage sex, sex between homosexuals. And on it goes. The show “Big Shotsâ€Â is about the sex lives of several men who are movers and shakers in the corporate world – one is a womanizer who it seems will have sex with anyone. He seduces a female reporter to get information from her, is shown in tawdry sex scenes with his ex-wife (they agree they couldn’t stand to be married, but that doesn’t stop them from having sex), and, in a new repetitive theme for ABC, has had sex with a transvestite prostitute. Another example of ABC’s normalization of the perverse. Another man is also shown in very steamy sex scenes with his mistress – after telling his wife “you know I’m always honest with youâ€Â. The first two episodes are chock full of vulgar sexual scenes, lingerie-clad women, crude sexual dialogue and innuendo – including references to anal sex, oral sex and three-way sex. Warning: the following dialogue is very offensive, but is provided to show how perverse this show is. In talking about having sex with the transvestite: “She was full of surprises. Unfortunately her penis was one of them.â€Â You got a knobber from a tranny?â€Â “…She looked like a model.â€Â “Unfortunately she was modeling penises. …When it comes to women, I’m not a penis man.â€Â And when one man is bemoaning the fact that his wife cheated on him, his friend tells him that its just part of life, stating: “[It’s a] rite of passage for men. Loss of virginity. First threesome. Discovery of the cheating wife. The trifecta.â€Â His friend questions, “You, too?â€Â “My second wife … of course I encouraged her to do it. Spice things up a little.â€Â We could go on naming shows and content ABC/Disney spews over the public airwaves. But I think the point has been made. ABC/Disney doesn’t care about families. It doesn’t care about the negative impact these shows have on our culture, on individuals, families and children. Either directly or indirectly we are all affected as our society is polluted. This is why we will continue to boycott Disney, a corporation that is not just ambivalent toward morality and decency, but is actively and purposefully attacking it. ===================================== Match Grant challenge.
