Righting of Wrongs

By: Steve Huston

Telling the truth isn’t always the most popular route to go, particularly when one’s superiors or the government hold to and push a form of so-called “truth” which is diametrically opposed to reality. During the Biden regime, many within the military, as well as the general citizenry of this great nation, all too well experienced the reality of this opening statement, as those in the upper echelons of all three branches made way for a Marxist revolution. As they were bent on the destruction of our country, ignoring their constitutional restraints, many of “the ruled” would sit down and shut up or quietly comply, hoping and praying for better days ahead.

Yet, there were also many who stood up, proclaiming the light of truth and refusing to allow freedom to slip silently into the ever-enveloping night of deception, regardless of personal cost to their life or careers. Many could be named from all walks of life, but today we want to talk about one truth teller who stood, paid the price, and now is being recognized and rewarded by this current administration. It’s an encouragement when we are able to see wrongs being righted; it gives us hope.

In 2021, then Space Force lieutenant colonel Matthew Lohmeier, under the previous administration, was fired from his command of the 11th Space Warning Squadron at Buckley Air Force Base in Colorado after self-publishing his book Irresistible Revolution: Marxism’s Goal of Conquest and the Unmaking of the American Military and discussing it on a podcast. During that podcast “he criticized diversity initiatives, critical race theory and Marxism as anti-American, divisive and threats to the nation, claiming those schools of thought were spreading through the military and weakening it.” (AirForce Times)

At the time, Military.com reported that Lohmeier’s superior, then Lt. Gen. Stephen Whiting, relieved Lohmeier of his post due to a loss of confidence in his ability to lead.

Military.com also wrote: “Lohmeier said he didn’t seek to criticize any particular senior leader or publicly identify troops within the book. Rather, he said, he focused on the policies service members now have to adhere to align with certain agendas ‘that are now affecting our culture.’

Regarding Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, he said, ‘I don’t demonize the man, but I want to make it clear to both him and every service member this [diversity and inclusion] agenda, it will divide us, it will not unify us.’

Austin on Feb. 5 ordered all military services to observe one-day stand-down on extremism in the ranks. As part of his stand-down, Lohmeier said, he was given a booklet that cited the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol as an example of extremism, but did not mention the civil disobedience and destruction of property that took place following the death of George Floyd, a Black man, at the hands of a white police officer in Minneapolis last May.” (I would encourage you to read the rest of this very illuminating article here.)

In January of this year, three days before his inauguration, President Trump announced his plan to nominate Lohmeier as undersecretary – the second-highest ranking civilian official in the Department of the Air Force.

On July 24, 2025 Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced: “Under the previous administration, Lt. Col. Lohmeier was removed for exposing the rise of Marxism and Critical Race Theory in our military. Today, he’s been confirmed as Under Secretary of the Air Force. I look forward to having him at the Pentagon.

While there is a vast plethora of other wrongs left to be righted, some of which we’ll never know and others that won’t be made right this side of eternity, we can be encouraged by one man’s willingness to stand and count the cost regardless of the outcome. We can also be encouraged, that in this case, things were made right.

For the Christian, it matters not when things will be made right for us; we are called to count the cost of following Jesus and to stand having done all to stand in this evil day. We believe – really believe – that this world is not our home, and that until we make it home – on that golden shore – we are to proclaim truth, walk in holiness, trust God’s sovereignty, and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Horatius Bonar shared some encouraging words that might be of some help in this regard: “Life is a journey, not a home; a road, not a city of habitation; and the enjoyments and blessings we have are but little inns on the roadside of life, where we may be refreshed for a moment, that we may with new strength press on to the end – to the rest that remaineth for the people of God.

What a wonderful “innkeeper” is our God, a blessed traveling companion is our Christ, and helper and comforter is the Holy Spirit. Might we, with all assurance, press on to the glory of God.
