This week’s Decency Minutes (DM), narrarated by Bill Johnson, clearly show a clash of worldviews; how those views affect us in body, mind, and spirit; and, as we live out those views, how they affect others. Though these differences are always ideological and spiritual, they often manifest themselves in ways which tend to blur the real issues – often reacting to feeling instead of acting on fact. Sometimes those views strongly hit the economy (DM 1); this always has far reaching collateral affects that can be felt for generations, even if they are barely noticed in their gestational phases. Other times, an opposing worldview will mock truth and, abhorring freedom, will attempt to turn a horrific and sad circumstance into an opportunity to press forward their agenda (DM 2). There are also times when one’s worldview directly affects a community in a stark and immediate way (DM 3). As that third script sadly describes, “I was corrupted by this world,” and then exhorts, “Stay vigilant!”
In a recent devotion, I read, “We do well to stand against the wiles of the devil. Fathers need to be aware of what enters through the “gates” of our homes, schools, churches, and businesses. We also need to consider what goes out the back door when modern things and ways come in the front. It is important to weigh decisions in the true light. How will it affect future generations? Will it have eternal consequences?”
So, yes, stay vigilant; be thinking and prayerful. Worldviews are developed by what we allow into our minds. Yesterday, we posted an article on this regarding entertainment, but there are many other factors that play a role in our development – all through our lives. That’s why it is vital that we’re daily in the Word of God (reading) and that we are getting the Word of God into us through meditation and application.
Many people I know remind me of an illustration I once heard: A minister was in a bookstore one day when a woman came in to buy a book. When asked as to the kind of book she wanted, she replied, “Oh, just anything.” So, the clerk handed her a worthless story. She rapidly glanced through the book and then said, “That looks good. I’ll take it.”
A half hour later the minister was in the meat market when that same woman came in and demanded a steak. She scornfully refused the first cut and the second that were offered, insisting rather loudly upon, “The best that you have.” When she finally received and paid for a most expensive cut, she announced for all to hear, “I am particular about what I eat.”
Is it not too frequently true that many people feed their bodies upon the best while their mind and soul are fed upon “just anything” – worthless and pernicious though it might be? Take care about what you are feeding on; intentionally ask your children and grandchildren what they are feeding on. Give them the truth, lovingly yet stoutheartedly.
If we would grow spiritually we must read, first of all the Word of God, next the most spiritual books we can find –books that contain rugged truths and uphold holy standards. This will help us, by God’s grace, to develop a healthy worldview that will see us well through time and eternity.
I would urge you to read the words of the hymn at the end of this email. May it be an encouragement and an exhortation for you.
“You’d Better Bring Your Own Lunch”
Former college football coach and current U.S. Senator, now, Tommy Tuberville has aspirations of becoming Alabama’s next governor.
He has great plans for Alabama, but standing for truth and state success means he’ll need to stand strongly against subversiveness.
Warning those Democrats hoping to do an end sweep by seeking to flee blue states like California and New York to make Alabama their home, he says: “[D]on’t be expecting a free lunch… Bring your lunch with you because you’re not going to be welcomed if you’re going to bring that Communist, Islamic atmosphere with you. We’re not going to deal with it… [T]hey’re going to try to make it happen. They’re going to try to overwhelm us.”
This is the attitude needed by governors, congressmen, judges, presidents, and Americans in general if we hope to protect our homeland from the evil intentions and penetration by Communist and Islamic forces.
Following the recent Catholic school shooting, the response from many on the Left has been to mock those calling for prayer. “Forget about ‘thoughts and prayers’ – we need action,” they claim.
What they don’t understand is that prayer IS action. It’s the first impulse of Christians in the face of tragedy. We pray because only God can truly comfort the brokenhearted. We pray because human action cannot restrain the evil which reigns in the hearts of mankind.
Unbelievers put their hope in stricter gun laws instead of Almighty God. They deflect their outrage toward Christians, instead of toward the transgender ideology they’ve pushed – which twists minds and brings despair to countless young people.
Despite the mockery, Christians will continue to pray. We’ll pray for the hurting; we’ll pray for those who reject Truth; and, as Christ commanded us, we’ll pray for those who hate us.
Over a decade before he would fire a gun into Annunciation Catholic Church last month, killing two children and injuring seventeen more, Robert Westman grew up in a devoutly religious home.
His parents hosted Bible studies and homeschooled, his mom would go on to work at church.
But, his traditional religious life was put in a blender at the vulnerable age of 9, when his parents divorced. The family’s shared value of religious devotion was replaced by an insistence from the mother that his father continue to bring the children to church.
The shooter would appeal to his parents in his manifesto, “please do not think you have failed as parents. I was corrupted by this world.”
Those are chilling words for Christian parents.
Stay vigilant! Instill your kids with the knowledge that God’s ways are better than the corrupting influence of the world.
True-Hearted, Whole-Hearted by Frances R. Havergal (Click on title to listen)
True-hearted, whole-hearted, faithful and loyal,
King of our lives, by Thy grace we will be;
Under the standard exalted and royal,
Strong in Thy strength we will battle for Thee.
Chorus:
Peal out the watchword! silence it never!
Song of our spirits, rejoicing and free
Peal out the watchword! loyal forever,
King of our lives, by Thy grace we will be.
True-hearted, whole-hearted, fullest allegiance
Yielding henceforth to our glorious King;
Valiant endeavor and loving obedience,
Freely and joyously now would we bring. (Chorus)
True-hearted, whole-hearted, Savior all-glorious!
Take Thy great power and reign Thou alone,
Over our wills and affections victorious,
Freely surrendered and wholly Thine own. (Chorus)
