All three of our Decency Minute scripts, directed solely by the Hand of God, deal with the most important news one could ever deal with and expound on – issues surrounding the salvation of man.
Earlier this morning, I had read a devotional that spoke of the Continental Divide, comparing it to the great spiritual divide that exists between the saved and the unsaved. “At that place (the Continental Divide) two drops of rain may fall only inches apart; one drop would make its way to the Gulf of Mexico, while the other would end up in the Pacific Ocean.” And spiritually speaking: “Each of us is either on the right side of Christ or on His left. He will either reject us to hell, or He will say, ‘Well done thou good and faithful servant…’ (Matthew 25:21).”
Salvation is much more than some mental assent that Jesus existed and died for our sin; belief involves an obedient trusting and resting on that truth. It involves a complete change of our person. Our motives are no longer the same, our actions are no longer the same; Paul tells us we are new creatures – the old has passed away and behold (look and see), all things are become new. Instead of being conformed to this world (Rom. 12:1-2), we are to be conformed to the image of Jesus (Rom. 8:29). Francis Schaeffer’s age-old question: “How then shall we live?” is answered: By holy living which stems from love for God with all that we are and secondly, love for our fellow man. Or, as Micah 6:8 reminds us: “…what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
One good example of such living and coming alongside others to help them live thusly is Dr. James Dobson. He also spent his life encouraging other believers to do just that. Whether it was a reproof against pornography or an exhortation to holy relationships within the family or any other number of topics which he covered during his lengthy ministry, he was always pointing to the Word of God and that transformed life of true holiness which flows from a heart of love for God and our neighbor. He will be greatly missed by many, but we can be grateful that he now can enjoy reward from his Saviour, loving Him without any of these earthly distractions.
May these Decency Minutes (DM) lead us to: Examine ourselves to see if we be truly saved (DM 1), go to the Bible as the only source of truth and guidance (DM 2), and not accept labels thrown on us by others, but think deeply to know what we truly stand for and be sure that it’s supported by the Word of God. (DM 3).
Let us strive to live lives of holiness, empowered and enabled by the Holy Spirit. As we live out our faith and speak to the truth of Christ crucified for sin and our justification, buried, risen, ascended, and coming again, may our prayer be (for ourselves and for others) that they will Find Us Faithful:
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave
Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
Salvation Unto President Trump
It’s not every day that the President goes on television and brings up the topic of Heaven.
When speaking on Fox News about his efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, President Trump said: If I can save 7,000 people a week from being killed – I want to try to get to heaven … I hear I’m not doing well. … But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.
Sadly, it’s an assumption many people believe. However, we can’t earn our way into Heaven by saving lives or doing good works. Salvation is a gift of grace, not by anything we do, but by what Christ did for us on the cross.
As President Trump contemplates the question: What must I do to be saved?” Pray he will accept the answer: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”
In Matthew 24, Jesus warns, don’t be fooled: “…many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ: and shall deceive many.” So, we’ve kept our eyes open for men and false prophets claiming to be Jesus.
But who would’ve ever considered people falling for an artificial intelligence – an AI – claiming to be the Christ? That’s right, multitudes of people are contacting AI chatbots that claim to be Jesus, offering spiritual guidance, answering prayers, and even taking confession.
One app reported gaining 30,000 active monthly users within three days of launching! Another app even lets users pick their preferred faith tradition, which then influences the AI’s responses.
These apps rely on advertising to generate revenue. They prey upon the vulnerable to profit from the spiritual hunger all men have.
You don’t need AI to hear from Jesus; He speaks to you through the Bible.
A friend told me a story about sharing the gospel with someone he’d just met. When they’d found out that he was a Christian, their reaction was to bring up all of the things that Christians are “against.”
It’s true that Christians are against homosexuality. We’re against abortion. We’re against transgenderism, promiscuity, infidelity, pornography, etc. Christianity stands strongly against those things, many of which are promoted in our culture as civil rights.
And being against those things has allowed our critics to smear us as “-phobes,” “haters,” “hypocrites,” etc. But, of course, we don’t stand against these positions just because we like to be difficult; we are against these popular ideas because of what we are for.
We are for God’s design for men and women and family. We are for thriving, fruitful people. The best way to get that is to teach the world to follow Christ.
