Get the Mouse Out of Your House

By: Chris Johnson

Chris Rufo has built a reputation as a sort of figurehead of the anti-woke, anti-Critical Race Theory momentum. A Washington Post column last year said he was the “unlikely figure” “spurring” Republicans to target CRT, while the New Yorker published a profile of him entitled: “How a Conservative Activist Invented the Conflict Over Critical Race Theory.” It begins: “To Christopher Rufo, a term for a school of legal scholarship looked like the perfect weapon…”

Of course, as the chaos of the Black Live Matter riots, the destruction of businesses and homes, and the occupation of downtown Seattle by violent activists faded into the rearview mirror, many on the right were picking up on how the ideology behind CRT explained the “reasoning” of the rioters, their treatment by leftist authorities, and the kid gloves the media used in their coverage of them. Rufo was one of the most digestible explainers for the newly interested of concepts which intellectuals on the right have been criticizing for decades under the terminology, cultural Marxism.

Rufo has built an audience of Americans concerned for the future of their country, as well as a reputation as a trustworthy source, as often he’s simply passing on what his subjects have said themselves.

So last week, when Rufo shared video of internal presentations from an online Disney executive meeting, he again introduced his audience to a cultural battlefront which has been skirmishing for decades. Thanks to Mr. Rufo, millions of Americans were made newly aware of what faithful readers of organizations like ours, Florida Family Association, and the American Family Association have been preaching for years: Disney is flat-out wicked.

Florida Family for years faithfully documented “Gay Days at Disney,” the debauched annual gay pride event which Disney has proudly hosted since 1991. For several years, Florida Family even rented a plane with a banner to warn unsuspecting families of what they would find at a Disney visit that day.

Our organization for years monitored Disney-owned channels like ABC and ABC Family (Tagline: A New Kind of Family), which were among the first to being slipping homosexual characters, plots, and intimate moments into prime-time television.

AFA, in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention, encouraged a Boycott of Disney for years, because of their purposeful, ever increasing messages of acceptance of the LGBTQ worldview.

Lest anyone argue that these were overreactions by “homophobic” parents, here’s a link to Rufo’s article detailing the multitude of cases in which Disney’s policies and employees have resulted in actual, physical, sexual harm and abuse, including a case from just the past few weeks.

So, when Disney’s executives tell you their goal is to serve the LGBTQIA+ community, parents should believe them. They’ve been doing it for years.

In a City Journal article, Christopher Rufo summarized the videos he obtained from Disney’s “Reimagine Tomorrow Conversation Series.” “In a featured presentation at the meeting, executive producer Latoya Raveneau laid out Disney’s ideology in blunt terms. She said her team was implementing a “not-at-all-secret gay agenda” and regularly “adding queerness” to children’s programming. Another speaker, production coordinator Allen Martsch, said his team has created a “tracker” to ensure that they are creating enough “canonical trans characters, canonical asexual characters, [and] canonical bisexual characters.” Corporate president Karey Burke said she supported having “many, many, many LGBTQIA characters in our stories” and reaffirmed the company’s pledge to make at least 50 percent of its on-screen characters sexual and racial minorities.”

Disney owns the biggest stories in our culture, and objectively the last remaining touchstones (such as they are) of our very splintered nation: Star Wars, Marvel Comics, ESPN, and others. It’s already the case, but in an increasing sense in order to participate in these common stories, one must accept the tenants of gender ideology.

As Christians, we have to ask ourselves, “Is it worth it?” The answer to this question is revealing. It is evidence of our priorities, and more importantly, our idols.

Even as Disney is ramping up the LGBTQIA+ activism here at home, they are expanding their outreach into at least ten nations where homosexuality is illegal. One reaction of this is to accuse Disney of being hypocritical money-grubbers. But, I think it is more likely that Disney is planting mission works, sharing the good news of “diversity and inclusion” in these strict, religious communities, doing exactly what they’ve done here in the US. I’m reminded of a comment I saw on Twitter from a Muslim woman in Afghanistan who referred to the US forces in the country as the “Gay Occupation.” The money-grubbing is actually the purest part of Disney.

Christians, get the mouse out your house. Don’t support the gay mission work. Form real communities within and amongst your churches, the kind the “LGBT community” is a twisted mockery of.  Get used to being weird. Godly men and women and children living together in Christian love and unity will stand out in stark contrast to the world Disney portrays.

Here is a Decency Minute detailing another example of Disney’s depravity regarding the upcoming movie: Lightyear.
