Save the Persecuted Christians

By: American Decency Staff

If one or more of my family members were unjustly imprisoned, stolen away, or viciously harmed without any civil or federal justice, I’d pray for them; but I’d take other action too. I’d make as many people aware of what was going on as I possibly could, wouldn’t you? Christians need to keep in mind that those fellow believers around the world ARE OUR FAMILY. They suffer incredible injustices for the name of Jesus Christ and we ought to do all we can to raise awareness of their persecution. Save the Persecuted Christians coalition has been formed for such a time and purpose as this. (www.savethepersecutedchristians.org)

Save the Persecuted Christians’(STPC) mission is “to protect Christians worldwide suffering discrimination, torture, rape, slavery, banishment and murder simply because they believe in Jesus Christ.” Their goal is “…a dramatic reduction of the global persecution of Christians.” And their plan to accomplish this is to ask “faith leaders and houses of worship across America to post banners outside for two reasons: 1) build awareness and 2) encourage engagement by visiting www.savethepersecuted.org” (a separate but related website to the one above)

One doesn’t often hear news stories on Christian persecution, especially not to the extent that this persecution is actually taking place. Get a small glimpse of what is happening to Christian brothers and sisters around the world; read these recent headlines. Better yet, click on them and read the article.

Saving the Persecuted Christians—Multiple studies show that Christians face growing violence and persecution across the globe.(The Patriot Post)

These articles only represent a miniscule portion of the 215 MILLION Christians who are persecuted at high levels worldwide. It’s hard to imagine that 1 in 12 Christians experience persecution, such persecutions which include death, rape, imprisonment, forced marriage, and physical violence. There are some places that not only imprison the Christian but also three generations of their family as well (regardless of the relative’s religious belief). For example, you, your father, and your grandfather could all be imprisoned in a hard-labor work camp just because of your belief in Jesus Christ. Our hearts should be burdened for fellow-believers and our minds should be bound with them. Remember the Apostle Paul’s words to the Hebrews: “Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.” (13:3)

Many of our readers are familiar with the name of Frank Gaffney; he’s strongly gotten behind the Save the Persecuted Christians coalition. In several of his shows, Frank has dedicated various segments to this very worthy cause. Click here to listen to one such program which was mostly given to the plight of persecuted Christians around the world. The last segment of this program is specifically dedicated to making people aware of the Save the Persecuted Christians coalition.

We urge you to urge your pastor to go to www.savethepersecutedchristians.org to get a free banner, like the one in our picture, to place in front of your church. Encourage other pastors you know, to help raise awareness of these terrible injustices. Encourage your friends to visit www.savethepersecuted.org to become better informed and to read a monthly devotional. It’s an update on your spiritual relatives, brothers and sisters in Christ.

Paraphrasing a famous quote by the late Rabbi Hillel: “If not this, what? If not now, when? If not you, who?”
