The battle that we are in —

By: American Decency Staff

How refreshing it was yesterday to hear a sermon addressing God’s instrument for His glory and honor – the church! The preaching message also recognized that yesterday was Sanctity of Life Sunday. The pastor wove into the message the preciousness of human life and that the church needs to be in the forefront of the fight as life is precious to our God and as Christians should be to us as well. Personal note: If your pastor honored “Sanctity of Life” Sunday, I urge you to encourage and express appreciation to your pastor. A high view of life from a sister in the Lord: I am so happy to hear that there are people out their willing to rid the world of indecent material. More often than not I feel alone in my search for a decent world. I completely agree that Victoria Secret is disgusting and degrading to women. I am a christian woman with three children and a loving husband. I do not like to have to tell my children to turn their heads because others have no respect for the mature, decent, human beings. I feel as though I’m in junior high again walking through the mall. Abercrombie and Fitch has nude posters hanging in the windows of their store. Like my 21 year old sister says “What, are they selling naked women in there?” I would do just about anything to rid the malls of indecent advertising. Victoria Secret purposely presents their ads as provocative and pornographic. There is no need for it. Every shopper knows it’s an underwear store. We don’t need to see how the underwear looks on someone posing as a porn star. As for the V.S. commercials the damage is done before you can even change the channel. The FCC says that no indecent material is supposed to be aired between the hours of 6am and 10 pm. Almost every single time I’ve seen a Victoria Secret commercial it was between these hours and my 4 year old daughter immediately shuts her eyes and says “I don’t want to see that, she’s being naughty.” It makes me almost want to cry. She shouldn’t be facing dilemmas like this in her own living room with mommy and daddy sitting right there. We are supposed to protect her and every one makes it so difficult. Why? I did contact the FCC several times with a complaint of the commercials. Nothing has been done. Please someone do something. A.S. “Pursuit of Holiness” Dear Kimberly: I am an elderly woman who would appreciate receiving a copy of Dr. Jerry Bridges’ book “Pursuit of Holiness”. I have grandchildren who do not attend church (I’m praying for them!) but one of them is asking for a Bible study in my home & I believe this book would be a good way to start. The public influence of TV, movies, radio & the general coursening of our culture is a real concern – you were so right using the saying : Sow a thought——-reap a character. Our society is going down hill. If it’s possible for me to receive this, I’ll be so grateful. My address is: … Johnston, IA 50131. Thank you & bless you!
