Individual below says ADA should keep its nose out of other people's business. Mr. Johnson: As you may have guessed, I peruse your website just to see what you're complaining about. Saw this picture of a Victoria's Secret display that you label as "graphic and offensive". What's so offensive and graphic about this picture? The model's private parts are covered for pete's sake! Why don't you try explaining yourself on this one? I've said it before and will say it again: you must have one sad life if this is all you have to worry about. You should keep your nose out of other people's business and let THEM deal with life issues on their own. Don't censor things for the rest of us that don't see a problem with what's out there. Live and let live. J.S. ADA RESPONSE: Whenever I get an email like this, I wonder to what extent does a person like this go? Does he have no line of demarcation? What is modest? What isn't? Does it matter? The picture that we displayed (regarding Victoria's Secret at Lakes Mall, Muskegon) shows a woman sitting on a stool – with only panties and a bra – sitting with legs spread wide open. Her body parts are covered – true. Would "Jack" permit a magazine with that image on the cover on his coffee table in his living room? Would a dentist permit a magazine with such a cover to lay on the table in the waiting room? A muffler shop? Most mall stores still don't use such displays. Would "Jack" feel comfortable allowing his daughter to sit like and dress like that at a family gathering? Moving toward closing: There are those who have become so cynical, so deadened (in some cases) because of the scarring of life brought on through their own damaging/degrading choices (fornication, illicit sex, pornography addiction, greed). And, that's regrettable for them and their loved ones. However, there are millions of Americans that find it inappropriate to have their wives and daughters dress that way in public (in the privacy of one's own bedroom is another thing). There are millions of Americans that find it inappropriate to have such a magazine available in their place of business. Victoria's Secret is not oblivious to the controversy of such images but believe that over time the desensitizing will be ramped up and with it less public inhibition and resistance. In other words less modesty and with it less Biblical morality. In fact, they are well on their way to having their way. What we tolerate, we ultimately accept. What we accept ultimately affects our choices and behaviors which ultimately sets societal norms. Lastly, there are those within mall management that know that Victoria's Secret is pushing it too far. Let them hear from you. They do have a voice. Encourage them to exercise their influence.
