Personal note:
The concept of a national shopping list resonates. Three days ago we circulated
an email entitled: "Comments regarding a national shopping list"

J.D. was one who prompted the revisiting of the question:
"How about developing a national shopping list?"
Is there a company today we can support? Maybe we need to come up with a
good will list and really praise them and ask people to send encouraging letters
to them. I am getting a bit overwhelmed with the negative news and am beginning
to lose heart and hope.
The evil forces are certainly set upon destroying our country. Maybe love
is the secret weapon. Maybe we need to trust in Jesus. Lets start finding
people we can reward. What do you think?

We responded in the following way:
We have no national shopping list nor does any organization that we are aware
of. We believe that it is next to impossible to develop such a list.
Fast food restaurants? Burger King? Pizza Hut? McDonalds? Wendys? Taco Bell?
Subway? Sorry. They all sponsor trash.
Prescriptions?
Gasoline?
Groceries?
Automobile?
Department store?
Where to shop for items where we can be assured that our monies aren't going
to empower pornography, indecency, obscenity, abortion, gambling, etc.?
Monitoring shows and providing advertiser lists of companies sponsoring trash.
It isn't that we take delight in listing companies that sponsor trash. Through
this mechanism, however, you can see who some of the regular purveyors of
trash.
But, we do believe it's possible for you to develop your own list - a list
of businesses in your area that only those in your area might be aware of.
Below represents a few of my thoughts regarding a small list of companies

Here is how a few of you commented:
*** I didn't see chic fil a listed. They don't even open on Sunday and really
deserve a good mention.
*** My first thought is chic fil a - they close on Sundays!!

*** Go to the HRC (Human Rights Council), which is essentially the Gay and
Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and they have a buying guide. We try hard, very
hard, not to buy from companies they recommend. I hope this helps.

*** Bill - I completely agree with J.D.! This is a great way to help out
those businesses that have chosen to take the high road. I want to share with
you a book that I personally have not read, but have just ordered it after
being told of it from my brother-in-law. It is the story of Elk River, MN
and how they have moved their city to that of a faith-based community. It
is inspiring - the businesses, government, church leaders and citizens have
banned together to change their city over to one of faith. Here is a link

As J.D. mentioned, the negativity can sometimes overwhelm us. The Story of
Elk River is one that can inspire us! And again, I love the idea of creating
a list of businesses that we can use as a guide for doing our shopping - great
idea!
