Personal note:
Some of my earliest recollections regarding the concern relative to so-called
"gay rights" came in the early 1990s.
David Caton, then President of AFA of Florida (now Florida Family Association)
was shedding light upon "Gay Days at Disney" which was being held
every spring. David would go and take pictures of the crude and lewd activites,
parades and perverted actions taking place at Disney World in Orlando, Florida
on their particular "Gay Days at Disney." David passionately labored
urging Disney to disenfranchise themselves from their legitimization of fostering
of homosexuality.
It was soon after that we found that Disney employed a large number of homosexuals
even in very high places. AFA and others joined in a long term boycott of
Disney that was rightly or wrongly terminated a number of years ago.
Though I was supportive of David, I never anticipated that this was only
the beginning of what was going to become the societal/national tragedy that
it has become.
My youngest will be getting married soon. As that day approaches, I am grieving
as I have never grieved perhaps in my life for what this young couple will
face in this decaying culture.
As I go through the many pictures and videos reviewing his young life, it
is pretty obvious that he has had an almost ideallyic childhood with so much
support from family, church, friends, community. For the most part, there
has been a buttressing of Judeo-Christian values all around him.
Yet, now what I see is a firestorm of judicial activism, of godless tyranny
running roughshod over the will of the people. As I watched David Caton do
battle in his home state of Florida over Disney and homosexuality just really
a few short years ago, I was and have been naive to the depths of depravity
of millions whose corrupting influence has reached to the bench, to the pulpit,
to the pew.
There is so much at stake. My children, your children, my grandchildren
and yours.
Gary Bauer as always has some significant counsel for the battle that is
before us. Below I'm quoting from Gary's email of yesterday.

Why Marriage Matters
The institution of marriage has taken some high profile hits in the past
few days. But the meaning of marriage – how it is defined and who defines
it – is tremendously important for our entire society, because it has
implications that go well beyond the desires of two consenting adults. This
debate will impact religious liberty and what your kids are taught in the
public schools. Even the liberal media understand that.
Last week, the Washington Post carried an article entitled “Faith Groups
Increasingly Lose Gay Rights Fights.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/09/AR2009040904063_pf.html
It was about the inevitable conflict between the militant homosexual rights
movement and the freedom of religion. It cited several examples of discrimination
against men and women of faith. Professor Jonathan Turley, who supports homosexual
“marriage,” suggested that we are “on a slippery slope that
inevitably takes us to the point where we punish religious groups because
of their religious views.” Last summer, National Public Radio
[http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=91486191]
addressed the same issue. It also concluded, “the religious groups are
losing.”
Here’s just one example of how this debate will impact your values
and your children.
This Friday, April 17th, has been chosen by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight
Education Network as the “National Day of Silence,” when students
are urged to show their support for the homosexual movement in the public
schools. Believe it or not, there is a resolution pending in the House of
Representatives
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.CON.RES.92:
supporting this effort. In addition, the resolution asks President Obama to
issue a proclamation “calling on the people of the United States to
observe the National Day of Silence with appropriate ceremonies, programs,
and activities.” Prayers are prohibited in our public schools, but by
co-sponsoring this resolution, at least three dozen members of Congress have
shown they believe the homosexual lifestyle should be promoted in the public
schools. Is this what you believe Congress should be working on right now?
This is why it is so important for men and women of faith to be informed
and active in the political arena. If your values matter to you, you must
defend them! Please, share this report with like-minded friends and family
members. Share it with your pastor and with those in your church. Encourage
them to sign up for this daily report and to take action on the issues that
matter most.
Ultimately, we must elect candidates who will unapologetically defend our
values, and, with your continued support, that is exactly what this political
action committee will do!
