Another one falls. A federal prosecutor out of a conservative area in Florida
picked up at Detroit Metro.
Detroit Free Press title:
"Feds: Prosecutor sought 'younger girls' on MySpace"

Adults risking their reputations to have sex with a minor. What prompts individuals
to act so recklessly and often seemingly uncharacteristically? What does such
irrational behavior reveal?
If it doesn’t point to the powerful draw of sexual images and words,
that grown men with Ph.ds, with families, good reputations and good incomes
would risk everything to have sex with a youngster, then I don’t know
what it more powerfully communicates.
Yet on it goes. Year after year since the Internet has become increasingly
popular and user friendly. Wide open to anything and everything.
If seasoned adults are stirred and manipulated by images, especially pornographic
images, then there is certainly cause to be concerned for our children.
TV has “softened up” natural barriers and paved the way for almost
total capitulation to the Internet.
Pause with me to consider:
Obviously, there are untold numbers of adults who can’t handle the
wide-open nature of the Internet. The reports of their ruin as mentioned above
– is tragic. Lives ruined. Relationships destroyed. But what about the
millions who even this day have been surfing the net. They are no where near
to trading reputation for sex with a child. But they are looking and lusting,
perhaps masturbating, becoming desensitized and/or addicted. Certainly their
thought life is being incrementally corrupted.
There is a price to be paid. We are beginning to pay it and are in almost
total denial. The American culture has become secularized, godless, materialistic,
seekers of cheap thrills rather than seekers of God. Sadly, it seems the church
is not far behind.
Something is wrong, too, when even Christian youth group leaders encourage
young people to go on myspace and have their own myspace sites. Are pornographic
images and ads acceptable collateral fallout for our youth? Is this simply
the price to pay for a community within a Christian youth group?
Here's yesterday's lead story in the Detroit Free Press and elsewhere: (Read
it and weep)
Federal prosecutor is arrested in sex sting
Police say he solicited sex with Michigan 5-year-old
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070918/NEWS04/709180375
"A federal prosecutor flew to metro Detroit with a Dora the Explorer
doll, hoop earrings and petroleum jelly for a 5-year-old he planned to have
sex with, police say.
John David Roy Atchison -- who prosecutes civil and criminal matters as an
assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern Florida District -- appeared on the
other side of the law Monday in Detroit federal court. Atchison, 53, of Gulf
Breeze, Fla., was charged with enticement of a minor using the Internet and
knowingly traveling interstate to engage in illicit sex. ..."
Personal note:
Be holy for I am holy is not just some little church saying – it’s
the Word of God. As God warned Israel as they drifted away from their God,
so He warns and calls us back to Him.
I will place no evil thing before my eyes. [Psalm 101:3a]
Do you love me? Then keep my commandments. [John 14:15]
My sheep Hear My voice and they follow me. [John 10:27]
Be not hearers of the Word only but doers. [James 1:22]
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. [Romans
8:14]
Test all things. Hold fast what is good. Abstain from all forms of evil. [I
Thessalonians 5:21,22]
I beseech you therefore God by the mercies of God that you present your bodies
a living sacrifice. Holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service.
[Romans 12:1]
