Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition

It's too bad that Sports Illustrated must stoop to the level of using soft pornography to sell its sports magazine. If you have a subscription to Sports Illustrated, we encourage you to cancel it. Your money should not support the sexual objectification of women.

Sadly, far too many convenience stores sell this magazine as well, often placing it in high visibility areas such that they are easily seen by children and are an offense to individuals of any age who would rather not have their sensibilities assaulted in such a manner while in a "family" marketplace.

When SI Swimsuit Edition came out in 2004, Wal-Mart decided to place the magazine front and center at the entrances to their stores in in the check-out aisles. We encouraged our membership to contact Wal-Mart and express their disapproval, and thanks to the voices of concerned Americans across the country, Wal-Mart did remove the magazine from such areas although they still sell it in their stores. Although we are happy with the steps Wal-Mart did take, they did not go far enough. Such a magazine should not be for sale in their stores.

If your local convenience store sells the Swimsuit Edition, we encourage you to voice your concern to them. Shop elsewhere if no remedy is made.
